John Paul Geurts
John Paul Geurts has launched his new creative agency, Funopoly, LLC to lead branded experiences and assist IP holders and developers with brand management. The company uses data, feasibility, and story driven design to create or shepherd attractions, live entertainment, and hospitality offerings. He is a dynamic, fun-loving creative thinker with global experience who can get things done. He creates a narrative that authentically reflects a brand’s values, personality, and objectives. Working around the world, has shaped his skills as a creative leader and diplomat who can solve challenges pleasing multiple stakeholders.
John Paul has an unparalleled ability to think and design at a macro level while directing the micro details. He has a rich background in entertainment, versed in everything from Harry Potter to SpongeBob SquarePants. Most recently, he was SVP, guest experience overseeing creative, brand, and design for Herschend Enterprises. Prior to that, he was a creative executive for Universal’s Epic Universe, Universal Orlando’s newest theme park opening in 2025. He oversaw creative and content development parkwide for live entertainment, media production, placemaking and intellectual property strategy.
Before Universal, John Paul worked for nearly 25 years with Viacom’s Nickelodeon, including as senior vice president of experience design, where he managed the worldwide creative development of resorts, attractions, exhibits, and live entertainment for the premiere kids’ brand. While with Nickelodeon, John Paul led the creative development, including overseeing script, story development, design, casting, and executive reviews, for Tony award-winning SpongeBob SquarePants, The Broadway Musical.
During his career, John Paul has designed scenery, lighting, costumes, or projection for more than 150 productions in the U.S. He was the co-creator of the renowned Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios Florida and a THEA Award recipient. His work has been celebrated for decades.
